No Budget, More Spending and Higher Taxes

House Democrat Leader Steny Hoyer has made it official that there will be no federal budget this year. He also admitted that the Democrats want to raise taxes on the middle class to help pay for more federal spending.

This is the first time since the current budget rules were put in place in 1974 that the House has failed to pass a budget. That means no limits will be in place on what Congress spends on federal programs.

Back when he was in the minority, House Budget Committee Chairman John Spratt said, "if you can't budget, you can't govern." I couldn't agree more.

Working families have household budgets. They understand what it means to set priorities and live within their means. But the politicians in Washington don't get it.

In the first eight months of the current fiscal year, the federal government amassed $935 billion in deficit spending, which puts us on track for another annual deficit of $1.4 trillion.

Now, to help pay for their near-record spending, Democrats are talking about breaking President Obama's campaign promise by raising taxes on working families that earn less $250,000 a year.

We need to stop runaway spending and keep taxes low to create jobs and boost the economy.
